As the curtains gradually descend on summer, tiny drops of rain begin to fall. The lilies in the valley begin to blossom, as though welcoming the rain. The smell of rain makes me nostalgic; it evokes the reminiscence of a land very close to my heart. Rain in this land called Coorg is a prettier picture than anywhere else. The coffee estates help in evaporation and transpiration and help recycle millions of gallons of water, leading to plentiful rain.

Rain Setting in...

Rain Setting in...

When it rains in Coorg, it pours. Rain brings with it good luck and the Indian farmers consider it good fortune. It also brings with it the fury of the rain goddess, destroying every thing on its path. Coorg, with its dense evergreen forests and misty mountains, gives the rain a stunning appearance – a million dollar picture!

With the south west monsoons setting in, Coorg is going to look even prettier. For all those people out there who enjoy the rain, this is the right time to head to Coorg. Hopeful eyes of the farmers turn towards the sky, gazing at the dark clouds and praying for copious rain.

As the tiny rain drops along with the dust begin to fall on his face, they lift the farmer’s spirit. The rains call for a celebration. They keep families at home, with good food and in high spirits, admiring it.

Just after the rain, bursts forth the glorious sun. It ‘scares away’ the dark clouds and keeps the farmers longing for more. How wonderful the estates and fields look, fresh green and happy! Little droplets of water on the leaves shine under the sun like a sea of diamonds.

The blossoming lilies manage to cheer up any one who looks on. The chirping of birds, the rumbling of thunder and the sun fading away again to welcome the next bout of rain, is a wonderful sight indeed!

Talking to you about rain has got me longing for the monsoons in Coorg. The sweet-smelling food and my grandmother’s house hidden in the hills call out to me!

Oh wonderful rain, do come again…
